Heather...Still Dancing

When Heather was still dancing in a studio she always said she didn't want to join the high school dance team because it was a completely different style of dance and she wasn't sure she'd like it. She was adamant about it until her 8th grade year when it was time to choose her classes for her first year of high school. That day, she came home and said, "Mom, guess what? I decided to be on the drill team after all!" So, her freshman year she was involved in band and was a drill team member. Freshmen can not audition for the dance team. She almost didn't join the drill team because she'd decided she wanted to be on the dance team but she didn't want to spend a year on the drill team first. In the end, she did it and I think she even enjoyed it.
And it paid off. At the awards banquet last year, she and her friend Brooke who has danced with her for years, both won "best dancer" awards from the drill team.

She was a little nervous this spring when it was time to audition before a panel of judges for the dance team. But, I wasn't worried a bit. I've been waiting for this year for a long time. This year there are so many of these girls with dance backgrounds that they can have a great dance team! Heather has danced at competitions since she was 7 years old and performed solos in front of judges since that time too. I was sure this would be a piece of cake for her. Of course she made the team as well as her friends who have danced with her for the past several years. I am proud of each of them!

Sophomores can audition for the dance team, but can not audition for officer positions. I think she has set her sights on being an officer next year. We'll know this spring how that turns out when it's audition time again! In the mean time I look forward to what this year will bring and hopefully can get to their competitions and shows to take lots of pictures and see what they do!

She recently had her portrait taken along with the group picture for dance team. Here's her portrait in her uniform. I can't wait to see her out on that kick line at half time!
