PhotoStory Friday-Friday Night Lights

In honor of the approach of fall, I repost this, one of my favorite posts, each year:

The school supplies are purchased, the clothing bought. With the start of school, also comes...

FOOTBALL!!!

The season tickets are purchased, the seat cushion's been found. Past the empty stadium can you see it? Can you feel it? There's a rumbling in the air, louder, louder still...stomp, stomp, clap. Stomp, stomp, clap. Another roar off in the distance....gets louder as more catch on. Can you hear it? "Defense. Defense. Defense." Can you feel the excitement of the first home touchdown of the game? Can you smell the popcorn and peanuts? Hear the cheers from the squad, the notes from the band?

It's with great anticipation we await the

Friday Night Lights.

Another Amazing Sunset

Tonight as I left to pick Heather up from a church youth event the sky was bright pink. I caught the very end of what must have been an awesome sunset. I stopped the car twice on the way to get out and take pictures...the camera was only in the car this time because I hadn't bothered to take it out yet. I really didn't expect to photograph anything today.

Sometimes I adjust colors some in photoshop but these photos haven't been touched. These shots are all straight out of the camera. I wish I could have seen the whole sunset tonight!

It was almost getting too dark to take pictures as I was taking these but the colors still show up well. If I'd had time I may have set up the tripod to snap a few more but I didn't want to be late getting Heather! Maybe next time....

Sunset Composite

The sunset last night was awesome! I posted a few of the many, many photos I took here. Usually I notice that the pretty sunsets here have a pretty spot in the sky where the sun is setting and for the most part the rest of the sky is pretty but not inspiring. Last night every direction I turned there was an awesome sight to see. I took a series of photos just turning all the way around. I combined several of them to create one long image of the sky I saw. This isn't all the images I'd planned to use, but I'm starting to see double from staring at these photos and maneuvering them for so long! (Click on it to see it larger)

More Photography Misadventures????

Depending on how you look at it, maybe this isn't a good week for me to be out and about taking pictures. Mishaps seem to abound. However, depsite the obstacles I have some photos from both outings I'm happy with!

Most of you will recall the other time this week I went out taking photos I fell. Tonight Marty had agreed we'd take the motorcycle for a ride and I could go take photos then. When we got home we were both very tempted to just stay home and laze in the pool. But it's been a while since we both went riding so we opted to stick to our original plan.

Waiting for my ride.

We headed toward Gruene, TX and along the way I took some sunset pictures from the back of the moving bike.

Just before we reached New Braunfels I convinced Marty to turn around so I could stop and get some photos of the sunset behind a windmill I'd seen.

When I'm less tired I'll be removing some power lines from this photo!

I got my photos, but the bike died. While Marty worked on it I found a nearby field with purple flowers growing in it I'd never seen before. Check those photos out over on my other blog.

Marty ended up having to roll start the bike and was able to get it going again. Instead of going on to Gruene we took a detour he knew of along the river. Before we reached our destination, the bike died again. We've never had problems with his bike and it was sure making up for it tonight! He got it going again and we opted to head back toward home, with one more stop in mind...the coffee shop. He knew he could roll start it again from there if need be. However, we never made it to the coffee shop. The bike died again just as we got back into town and had to be pushed through a busy intersection. He decided to forgo the busy roads with so many traffic lights in case the bike decided to die again, and took a detour. The bike died once more and that was it. We were stranded and although we weren't too far from the shop where he works he knew it was past his boss' bedtime and he wouldn't be able to rouse Frank for help. He debated pushing the bike all the way to the shop and borrowing a truck to get home. He pushed it a little while and decided that was going to be too much. He sat down on the bike racking his brain for which of our friends, if any, might have a trailer.

I think this is my favorite photo of the whole night. If you click on it you should be able to better see the fence line.

He remembered Jim has a trailer and called him. Jim came to our rescue!!! (You can't ask for better friends than those willing to come to your rescue late at night!)

We are home safe and sound and the bike is outside in the shop. Thank you, Jim!!!

Might all this have been worth it for the shots I got? You decide.

As you can tell, it's NEVER a dull moment around here!

View from the Sky Trac

Sometimes there are great benefits to being married to a construction foreman! Tonight as we left church Marty said we should hurry home so he could send me to the top of the sky trac to take pictures of the sky over the trees. If you've been reading here long you know I don't get a good view of sunsets, etc., from my house because I live amongst the trees and I have to drive several miles for a good view.

Heights never bothered me much growing up. I've discovered the older I get...the more they bother me...sometimes. Tonight they bothered me!

The sky trac sits at our house because Marty's job site this week wasn't far from here and this was a close place to park it until it could be transported back to the shop. Marty brought home the dump truck and trailer tonight so he could load it up. As he was preparing to leave the shop his boss Frank told him he may as well load the truck up with some gravel for our driveway since he was bringing the dump truck out here anyway. Thanks, Frank!!! So, the sand that Marty slides through each morning and night in front of the shop where he parks his motorcycle will be a problem no more!

Needless to say, my trek up in the sky trac had to wait until the gravel was dumped. And the truck was hooked back up to the trailer. All this time I impatiently waited just knowing the sun was going to set and I was going to miss it!

Naturally, as I waited I snapped pictures to kill time.

To me, this is just a pile of gravel that means someone has a job of spreading out! To Marty, this is an exciting gift!

Heather was put to work directing Marty as he backed the truck up to hook up to the trailer.

The view of the sky from the ground.

Ok, so I didn't miss the sunset after all. Marty placed boards across the forklift prongs (?) so Heather and I would have something substantial to sit or stand on as we were lifted, and up we went. Just as we reached a height just above the house the platform tilted and shook and that did it for me. I wanted to go no higher. Later I found out Marty needed to level the platform as he discovered on its way up it wasn't completely level. He assured me it did not shake much at all. I assured him from my position way up in the air, that yes indeed it did shake. A lot. So, I took my pictures from that height all the while Heather was saying "let's go higher" and I was saying "no!" When I'd finished I told Marty he could bring me down and then send Heather all the way up without me. Of course she thought that was AWESOME!!!

Finally! All aboard!

Just after the shaking and jerking of the platform we sat on, I collected myself and began to snap pictures. See, I told you I was above my house!

What a pretty sky! I'm glad that while the sky trac was here we had an intersting sky to view!

My father-in-law Freddie came by to help Marty load up the sky trac. Helllooooo down there, Freddie!

Ok, so the jerking and shaking was worth it for this!!!

And this!

After I got off, Heather went up solo. Hellooooo way up there, Heather!

And down she comes!

Ok, so construction equipment toys can be really cool!

Thank you, Marty!!!
