This spring we are seeing more hummingbirds in our backyard than ever before. I'm thoroughly enjoying the opportunities to try to capture them with my camera!

Hanging Out in the Back Yard

After heavy rains today, when I came home from work the hummingbirds were buzzing all over the back deck. I grabbed my camera and snapped away. I'm still trying to capture that perfect shot, but in the mean time am enjoying the practice and playing with the camera's settings. When the rain started coming down again the birds left, but just before dark the rain stopped and they returned again. The light was gone, but I made the most of what I could capture.

Spring has Sprung

I know, I know, I've neglected my blogs lately. To my faithful few followers I am sorry. I have been otherwise occupied with a website of a different sort...for my high school graduating class. Dare I admit this summer will be our 20th reunion??? Yikes!


Anyway, I digress...on to the blog! Today when I came home for lunch a hummingbird buzzed me. So, before I headed back to work I grabbed the camera and waited on the back deck to see if I could capture any.


They kept flying way up in a nearby tree so they were hard to capture!

Just Us

Tonight was declared "family night" at our house. Originally Marty was supposed to leave tomorrow for a job at the coast and a fishing trip once the job was completed, but that trip's been postponed. I'm leaving Sunday for camp where my friend Jason and I will be counselors for preteens.









Tonight we decided to just hang out at home and enjoy the pool. We considered building a fire to roast hot dogs but decided doing all that to roast 3 hotdogs seemed a bit much so Heather made us dinner instead. Thanks Heather!

Heather tried to teach me to do a handstand in the water but I failed miserably, sending her into a fit of hysterical laughter. At least it was entertaining I guess!



When we tired of playing in the water we headed up to the deck to relax. Marty got trigger happy with the camera while I was swinging, enjoying the peaceful evening.

While we were on the deck, the hummingbirds kept us entertained as they flew back and forth from the feeder to the tree. Here I've captured one while it drinks:

This one was waaaaay off in the trees. I only saw him a couple of times. I like that his feathers all stick up just a hair. I call this one "Cheney" in honor of my litte friend Cheney who has a mohawk.

New posts here will be sparse until late next week, but once I return from camp I hope to have plenty of new blog posts!!!

Hummingbirds

While lounging on my mother in law's deck Friday, before capturing all those photos of the Painted Bunting, I snapped several photos of the many hummingbirds she also feeds.

There was quite a war between the birds and the bees as to who had the right to eat from the feeder.

Some birds just appeared to wait patiently for their turn at the feeder on a nearby wire stretched between the trees.

On another note, I'm going to attempt to go back to work tomorrow for the first time in just over 2 weeks. I don't know that I'll have the energy to work all day but I'm going to give it my best shot. I don't look forward to the piles on my desk and in my box that await me....
