Sunrise in Calico Rock

Another favorite part of our fall vacation was the morning my husband, my mom and I drove to Calico Rock, Arkansas very very early in the morning to watch the sun rise over the bluffs of the White River. It was incredible! The sunrise itself wasn't particularly spectacular that day, but the fog was amazing and so surreal. We stayed and wondered around the bluffs until well after sunrise and until every bit of the fog had lifted.  My husband the daredevil gave us a scare several times as he'd wonder so close to the edge of the rocks high above the river. It was a beautiful morning and one I hope to never forget.

Sunrise from Camp

Early one morning at camp Marty and I along with Heather and one of our campers woke very early to watch the sun rise together. The rest of our campers refused to allow us to wake them early enough to enjoy the view so we let them sleep.

The last morning of camp the girls got ready for breakfast and packed bags very quickly. The boys were SLOW getting ready that day so we wondered down to the prayer garden and the girls were able to see the sun that had just risen in an even more beautiful sky than the day before:

Habakkuk 3:3-5 (NIV)

...His glory covered the heavens

and his praise filled the earth.

Sunrise in Port A

This weekend my husband and I went away to the beach for the weekend to relax and to enjoy Sandfest at Port Aransas. We woke early both days in an attempt to watch the sunrise on the beach. Day 1 was VERY windy and cloudy so great pictures were not meant to be:







Day 2 was also cloudy and a bit windy but not as bad as the previous day. Neither day had spectacular colorful skies as I'd hoped but I enjoyed photographing anyway:

I Missed the Best Part of the Sunrise

I didn't have time to stop this morning to photograph the gorgeous sunrise I was seeing in my rearview mirror! I was so tempted but knew it would be impossible to do and get Heather to school on time, so I just kept driving. I dropped Heather off and decided rather than to go to the coffee shop for my morning coffee I'd run into McDonald's and check out their new coffees...and it was FREE!!! I didn't know it would be free when I decided to stop in so I was glad I chose to have my coffee there. It was pretty good, but I must say it's still not as good as my grande white chocolate mocha with caramel from the coffee shop!


With coffee in hand I headed back down the road to go to work. On the way this time I did have time to stop for some pictures, even though the sky wasn't near as spectacular as on the trip into town.

Although my evening didn't end as pretty as it started, I did have 2 white knights come to my rescue when a tire went flat on the suburban. Thanks Marty and Bill! Heather was sure impressed with how fast you two worked to get that taken care of!

I Didn't Know He Had It In Him

I said in a recent post that I never know what I'm going to find when I upload pictures from Marty's camera. Judging from what I am finding, getting him a camera was an excellent choice for his Father's Day gift!



Among the photos of all of us trying to capture the moon last night, and pictures of a current construction project I also found these: I hope he wasn't late getting to work that morning!!

Sunrise

For some reason my sleep schedule is all out of whack lately. Either I'm unable to fall asleep until very late at night, or I fall asleep at a decent hour but then am wide awake at 4, 3, or sometimes even 2:00 in the morning!!! This is Saturday, a day when I could sleep as late as I'd like since there's nothing but housework awaiting me today. But, no. Just before 4:00 I was wide awake. Again. So, I got up and surfed the net for a while, answered some emails, sorted some more pictures and woke Marty at 6:00. I said, "Come watch the sunrise with me." He told me to come back in a few minutes, to let him sleep just a bit longer. So, I did and a FEW minutes later I woke him again. He was a good sport and got up and we went for a drive to see the sunrise. We can't watch it from our yard because there are too many trees where we live. I first brought up the subject of watching the sunrise last night, so he was forewarned that I'd be waking him early. We had talked about taking the motorcycle, but he said it would be too cold this morning. He was right. When I got up it was 68 degrees and I was cold so I didn't hesitate to take the car instead. Yes, I was cold at 68 degrees. I'm a huge wimp when it comes to being cold!

It was just getting light when we headed out and the sun had not yet made an appearance. I took some photos of the peacefule, foggy morning.

Then we decided to drive down to the river to see if there were any good photo ops there with the fog over the river. The fog was up higher on the hill but I was still able to get some decent shots.

When we drove back up the hill to check out the sun rise, this is what greeted us:

After the sun began its ascent into the sky this morning Heather and I headed into town to drop her off for band camp. I was driving and unable to photograph the sky so I told Heather to grab my camera. (Yikes!) After many verbal instructions and warnings like, "Don't hold it out the window!" she began snapping pictures. I am impressed with some of the shots she got.

She took this one of the sky in the mirror and reflected off the windows of the car.

I think she did well and definitely shows some promise!!!
