Twins!

Living in the country definitely has its advantages. One such perk is the wildlife I get to watch on a regular basis. We see deer in our yard on a daily basis. Recently a doe began to hang around more often and we wondered if she'd have her fawn close by. We don't know where she kept them while they were tiny, but she had twins. We still see them several times a week but they spook easily. Today, I was able to quietly slip onto the back porch and take a few photos before the clicks of the camera scared them away.

Aren't they cute??!

Of course momma wasn't far away

oops! too many shutter clicks!

My Visitors Today

This afternoon when I woke from a much needed nap I saw one lonely deer standing in the yard, looking toward the house. He seemed to watch my every move as I gently opened the door and stood on the deck to take his pictures. After a few clicks he ran off, but didn't go far. Normally we see multiple deer at once so it was unusual to only see this one. I'm hoping his mama wasn't the wounded deer I saw on my way home yesterday, dragging one of her hind legs behind her as she ever so slowly crossed the road in front of me. I felt so sorry for her but didn't see anymore of her today.

Later in the evening some more deer were in the yard so I ventured out onto the deck once more to capture them as well. Almost as soon as I started clicking I could hear something coming down the road, and the deer could hear it too. Their eyes were trained toward the sound, but they remained still the whole time as Heather drove up in my father in law Freddie's pickup. Freddie rode up on the lawn mower soon after and the 2 of them set to work getting the lawn mowed for us. Thank you Freddie and Heather!!!

I must admit, it's been so long since I held my camera it almost felt foreign in my hands...but not for long!

More Photos of the Triplets

Tonight after church just as we were sitting down for dinner Marty noticed we had visitors outside. We see the deer in the yard almost daily but usually when there are very many of them they stay on the edges of the yard and don't come close to the house. Sometimes one or two may venture closer, especially to sneak the dog's food and water. Tonight several were eating grass right outside the front door. I put off eating my dinner, grabbed the camera and slowly and quietly eased outside onto the front deck. I managed to make them nervous enough they began to wander farther away, but not nervous enough that any of them ran. I took photos until they were too far and it was getting too dark to get good shots. Here are several of what I did get:

We Have New Babies

You know I've been sick when I tell you I haven't even picked up my camera since the night I took photos of the moon. Seriously, that's the last time I used my camera. The photos posted since then have been old ones or some Marty has taken. Today's post is no exception. When I returned home from the hospital these are some of the photos found on my camera. The deer have been wondering around our yard daily and Marty's been snapping photos whenever he gets a chance. Here's some of what he got while I was gone:

Life in the Woods

Marty happened to look out the window of the back door this morning and saw a doe wandering around the woods at the edge of the yard. Soon after, a buck started following her around. As she meandered through the woods toward the front yard, the buck followed but came much closer to the house. Marty told me to come look so I grabbed the camera and went to another window. When the deer came close enough I went out to the back deck for a closer shot. It was COLD outside and I had no shoes on!!! Small price to pay for pictures, right? After several clicks he noticed me and ran toward the front of the house. I went back through the house and watched out the front windows to see where he would go. He stopped at the edge of the yard, still close enough to get some good pictures so I went outside again. Only problem was, I still was without shoes and there's no roof over the front deck and the wet porch was like ice on my feet! Still, I clicked away until Marty brought me a pair of shoes to slip on. Here are the pictures I got. Mabye sometime today my feet will be warm again! :0)

Happy Mother's Day!

How did you spend your Mother's Day weekend?

I spent Saturday catching up on some work at the office, snapped a few photos for you, and did some yard work. Is it odd that I'm 36 years old and my husband has to teach me how to mow a lawn? I've helped him once before but he felt so sorry for me because of my allergies that he took over and said I wouldn't have to do that again. As a child, if my older brother didn't mow the lawn my sister or mom did. I never learned how. There were always inside chores for me and helping to care for my younger siblings, which appealed to me much more than yard work anyway!!! When I moved out it was into an aparment so still had no lawn to mow. Then when my husband and I moved into a house, he worked on a farm and the house came with the job. One of the other farm hands mowed our front lawn and my husband took care of the small back yard. In Missouri we had so many rocks we didn't have any grass so once again, no need to mow. We've lived in this house six years and today is the 2nd time I've mowed. I'm very proud of him. It's his nature to stand guard and make sure things are being done right. He did that for a bit, but 2 times around the yard and I guess he thought I couldn't mess it up too bad and he went back to burning the brush pile and trying to repair the riding mower. We don't have grass yet, we live in the sand. We have weeds and stickers for a yard. And when you mow, you get a shower of sand and who knows what else blowing around everywhere. I spent a couple of hours mowing and I was litterally black from head to toe. I've never done anything in my life that has made me more filthy (at least not that I can remember right now!) Ugh! What a nasty job! Tell me again why I volunteered to help with this???

Our neighbors are still coming back for daily visits.....

And bringing friends!!! We still haven't seen any of their babies.

Do you think they'll still come around when we get all these weeds mowed?

I also created a photo book this weekend. For those of you who enjoy my photos of flowers and butterflies you may like the book. There are no captions, only pictures. Click the link at the top of the page to check it out. There are 2 versions of relatively the same pictures. One is an 8 1/2 x 11 vertically formatted book and the other is a 9x7 landscape formatted book. One has 2 photos per page for most pages, the other has a single photo on each page.
