For Elizabeth

Ok Elizabeth, right after you commented here that everyone knows I can't grow flowers...guess what!?? The trumpet vine on the back deck began to bloom for the first time! So there! (Although in all honesty I had nothing to do with them at all. They were clippings from my mother in law's trumpet vine that Marty planted.)

Thoughtful Thursday

I still have nothing new to post so I leave you with more photos from this spring. (Bill, you may recognize these from the day we all went road trippin' with you.)

Our Walk at Fort Sam

We are childless this weekend as Heather is enjoying herself on a band trip to South Padre Island! Friday night we were invited to have dinner at Mike and Debbie's (my brother in law and his wife).

After a wonderful meal I suggested we take a walk and everyone agreed. It was a beautiful evening and Mike and Debbie's new house is near a very pretty golf course. Someone please remind me next time, no matter how cumbersome....I may just want to take along my zoom lens!!!

On our walk we kept finding golf balls everywhere. Marty juggled some of them he found.

Mike and Debbie.

"Helllooooo, whatcha doin'?"

Marty and me.

It was beautiful out and the reflections in the ponds on the golf course were great.

Marty just chillin' while Debbie and I snapped photos near the water.

As I was heading to the other end of the pond/lake to photograph some pretty flowers nestled on the banks I stopped to take these photos on the way.

I never did make it to the end to take the photo I wanted. My biggest fear while I'm out taking photos is that I'll see or even step on a snake. Marty's always telling me I don't watch where I'm going. Right after I snapped this photo and continued walking along the water's edge I almost stepped on a huge snake laying right next to the water. He scared me and freaked me out and I went the other way and and refused to go back for the photo I wanted. Mike, Debbie and I walked in the opposite direction. Marty, of course, went over to see the snake. There were 2 laying side by side, not just one and he thinks they were water mocassins. He scared them into the water but we still refused to venture back over there. Mike was sure I could have gotten a cool photo of the snakes! I told him I didn't want to even look at pictures of the snakes!

We kept hoping the crane would stay still long enough for us to get close enough to take some good pictures of it, but he was way too skittish and kept flying off.

Road Trip...Revisited

I posted photos of a recent road trip with friends here. I also posted more photos of that day here. While we were out and about that gorgeous Saturday, I also snapped some pictures of a couple of churches. I like old churches, probably because I grew up in a very old, small country church. When that church was first established it was a one room school house. One of the churches I photographed Saturday reminded me a lot of the church I grew up in.

The other church was just down the highway from the huge field of bluebonnets I posted pictures of recently. Even in the field of bluebonnets we could hear the chimes of the bells from the bell tower of this church. It was a beautiful sound and so complimented our trek through the pretty flowers!

While we were roaming around we stopped at an old general store and we all got a kick out of this population sign posted on the building. I wonder how close it is to the current population???

Grandpa's Place....in Bloom

Mom's been traipsing around Grandpa's place taking photos. She sent me a cd full of spectacular photos. I can't remember the last time I saw this many blooms there, especially after Grandma became too sick to care for all her flowers that grew in abundance by the house.

It has taken me a few days to view the pictures. My computer has not been cooperative in loading her cd and tonight's the first time I've viewed all of them. Some of the pictures really brought back memories of the times I and my siblings and cousins were running all over the place; from one pond to another; from the saw mill to the barn; from the house to the shop.

Looking at the pictures of the ponds reminded me of a time several of us were fishing in the pond by the barn and we kept catching snapping turtles instead of fish. I remember a huge one my cousin Chester caught and I wouldn't go near it!

The photos with the old barn in the background reminded me of following Grandma down to the barn and chatting with her while she milked the cow. She'd call the cow and the cow would go straight to the stantion and I'd pour her grain. Grandma would take her one legged stool off the wall and balance on that and prop her forehead against the cow and could always get more milk than I ever could! The cats would all come running and she'd squirt the milk straigt into each of their mouths before going back to filling her milk pail. I always hated the cows and the milking but loved to watch Grandma or Mom do it and loved talking to them when they did.

It's my hope that when Grandpa is gone, whoever next inhabits his land will carry with them as many memories as we all have from there.

I'll have to ask Mom, but I'm almost positive this photo was taken on the highway she and Grandpa live on, just about a half mile up the road from his place.

To me, this photo perfectly reflects both Grandma and Grandpa.

Fabulous photos, Mom! Thanks for sharing and for allowing me to share with everyone else!

Wordless Wednesday
