Pottersville Church

Growing up next door to my grandmother, I spent many many of my childhood days with her. She shared so many stories of her younger years. I wish I could remember more of them! One of the places she spoke of often was Pottersville Church where she attended at one time, but I don't know for how long. She used to share stories of riding her horse or driving her horse and buggy to Pottersville to visit friends and family.

Recently my facebook friend, Sue, uploaded this photo she took of the church in Pottersville.

I was immediately drawn to the photo and considered painting it and asked Sue if she'd mind and asked her to send me the photo in color. She was honored to have been asked but I found that I loved the photo in sepia and decided to paint it that way too.

My sister gave me some old windows that had once been in the church where her husband is pastor. I have painted one of them already, and painted a church in a field of wildflowers on it. After I began painting Sue's photo on this window, I have decided to paint only churches on the windows from my sister.


I thought you might like to see the progress of this window, that I think has become a favorite of mine. A good friend of mine shared that his parents were married in this church and that the windows that once graced its walls now reside in their home. Several have shared their memories of this church with me and I'm loving all the stories!

Painting Auction: Benefits Project Graduation

Up for bids is this hand painted antique window:

It measures 34" wide by 27" tall. Acrylic paints were used and painted over gesso, applied right onto the glass panes.

My daughter is graduating high school this year. Many parents have come together to plan "Project Graduation" for the graduates so they can celebrate their night in a safe, fun environment with no alcohol nor drugs. Monies are still being raised for this event and here's how you can help. Contributions are of course welcomed! If you'd like to purchase this painting (would make an awesome Mother's Day Gift by the way!!!), simply leave your bid amount in the comments section below (click the word "comments" below this post). Bidding starts at $25. Bidding will end at 10:00 pm Central Daylight Savings Time on Wednesday, May 5, 2010. 100% of the proceeds will go to Seguin Project Graduation. At the end of the auction, the top bidder will have 24 hours to contact me (photosbytammy@sbcglobal.net) to make arrangements to pay. Painting will be delivered to local winner if in the Seguin/New Braunfels areas. Others may choose to pick up from a convenient location. I'm Behind Again

I know, I know, I'm so far behind in blogging. I have soooo many photos and events to blog! I've been spending what free time I can find painting antique windows such as this one:







I painted these three just since Saturday. And I've sold one of them, and another unpainted one just like this one:






On top of that I have 2 potential upcoming commissioned projects.





On top of all that, our family is praying about some major life-changing decisions. I'm not ready to go into that, but prayers are appreciated!


In the mean time, most late nights and early mornings can find me in my home office painting away....

Etsy

I've been painting again! From time to time I have made a little extra money from painting projects, but most of my past projects have ended up as gifts. It's been a couple of years since I've painted anything (other than walls!) and it feels good to be creating again.

My friend Elizabeth introduced me to Etsy! I had never even heard of it before, but Etsy is an online marketplace designed to sell hand made items of all kinds. It appears to work much like ebay, but without the bidding. I decided to create my own Etsy profile and page for my paintings and see if I can sell any of the items I paint. I decided it can't hurt and it does not cost much at all to list the items! Setting up the site is free and easy! First I had to create a profile name. That was easy. I decided since my photos are known as "photos by Tammy," my profile for etsy can be "Painted by Tammy." So, to find my page, simply type in www.paintedbytammy.etsy.com or simply click here to be redirected.

Here are the latest items I have been working on, and are now listed on my etsy page...with the exception of the snowman window painting. He's already been sold and will be soon on his way to Arizona!
